The only problem - for me - was the fact that I had to be back home to work the 12 hour night-shift Sunday night... then straight from work to an exam Monday morning, then a 12 hour clinical rotation Tuesday, then another exam Wednesday morning.
Even with all that looming, I still couldn't say no to a good ol' Thompson family vineyard party... so, against my better judgement, I didn't!

This blurry, fuzzy photo, a long night-time exposure taken with the camera resting shakily on top of a vine post, might best illustrate the conflicting notions sloshing around in my head at the time: have fun with everyone else?... or pull those textbooks out of the car that I'd packed knowing damn well I wouldn't actually pull them out of the car....
Those of you reading this who know me probably won't be terribly surprised to learn that my textbooks remained snugly nestled in the car all weekend...

...as I enjoyed, among other things, the campfire with my sister Kelley and Marijn.

...boogied down to some real, down-home bluegrass-style music.

...and hiked around with Weather, digging on the progress the vines have made in the past six months.

The vines really are looking beautiful. I can almost taste the wine!
Honestly, as much fun as we had that weekend, I really was a bit too preoccupied with the forthcoming week to have as much fun as I would have liked. And I practically ignored my camera the whole time, missing out on many great photo-ops.
For one, the barn... it is finished and the upstairs apartment is furnished. It served impressively as the hub for the party, and really deserves more coverage than I'm affording it here. That, and of course, all the great, lovely, super-cool folks we spent the weekend partying with, getting to know, and poking fun at... I'm downright ashamed that I don't have more photos to post here now.
I promise I will do a much better job with my camera the next time we are at the vineyard.
