Emmie came up to the vineyard from Tallahassee with her folks Martha and Paul this weekend. Martha is a really, REALLY old friend of Weather's from way back in the Bozeman college days. She and her husband Paul live in Florida now, and wanted to get away for a little camping trip before the winter really kicks in. Setting up camp on the Ellijay River at the vineyard seemed like the perfect place to introduce two year-old Emmie to tent camping; with the warm, comfy escape of the barn apartment right there if we needed it... which, since the temperature dipped into the twenties, we decided we did (for Emmie's sake of course. Weather and I were perfectly warm tented up by the river, snug into our down sleeping bags.)
Emmie had a great weekend playing ball with the pups (they LOVED Emmie!) and exploring the vineyard, roasting marshmallows and kinda camping out. We ALL had a great weekend. The weather, while a little chilly at night, was crisp and autumny. Just enough to keep the fire stoked all day long.
Flipping through my pictures from the weekend, it looks like Emmie kinda stole the show. No pics of the vineyard this time! (Which is fine, because the vines are all dried out and dormant for the winter anyway.)

Martha and Weather really don't see enough of each other.

They love each other.

Emmie and Weather make pumpkin pancakes for everyone!

Emmie's a huge fan of Dr. Seuss and of Weather's story telling skillz.

She also enjoys dancing like Aunt Dana.

Always dancing like Aunt Dana.

I know. And she's not even TRYING to look cute here.

Mmmmmmmmmmac and cheese.

Paul, Emmie, and Martha stick me in the eyeball with a marshmallow.

Emmie learns about marshmallows.

And teaches us a thing or two.

Then we teach Emmie about s'mores!

Are words necessary?

Are they?

I love this picture of Emmie, taken as we were walking down from the barn to the river. But I love the next picture more...

This is a good camera face.

Weather helps Emmie set the tent up.

Emmie hollers for the dogs.

This is Emmie's "Smile for the camera" smile.

We had so much fun! SO much FUN. That was by far the best family trip we have ever taken. THANK YOU for arranging it Thompsonheads!
I love all the pictures. I must have looked at them 20 times this evening. I especially love the shot where I'm reading to you, Wuth. Oh that's a framer in our house hun.
Em is still talking about Aunt Wudah and Hammy and Bean-do. She had a wonderful time.
Ahem. This is a bit embarrassing. I think we accidentally stole a book from the barn. It's called 'Passing Gas'. I'm serious. I think it must have been gathered up when I grabbed Em's books off the coffee table. Anyways, I will email you for their address so I can mail it back and also send a thank you/ apology note. :-/ Sorry Chris's family!

P.S. I can't believe you took that book - it is no surprise though considering how much you love gas. The Thompson family will do just fine with out the passing gas book - we are all experts.
Actually, that wasn't a kids' book. It's a coffeetable book commonly seen in Thompson livingrooms around the world. Just bring it back with you next time you visit ;)
